Today’s DIY was inspired by Emmanuelle Moureaux’s installation for the 2013 Shinjuku Creator’s Festa in Japan. It’s really easy to pull together at the last minute, but make a HUGE impact. All you need is Canford Cardstock (in rainbow colors) and some basic supplies like string, scissors, and hooks. Hang it up over a table at your next dinner party!
Materials Needed: Pencil, straight-edge ruler, 1/2″ x 30 1/2″ sheets of Canford Cardstock (in rainbow colors), scissors, white thread, 3m small wire hooks, 1/16″ hole punch, Scotch tape
Step 1: Mark out a rectangle on the ceiling, in pencil, a bit longer than the length of your table and the width of the Canford cardstock. Draw a parallel line to the length across the center of the rectangle as well.
Step 2: Making note of the rectangle’s length and the number of sheets of cardstock, mark “x”s along the length of the rectangle so each sheet can be evenly spaced apart. Make a matching “x” on the opposite length of the rectangle, and along the centerline.
Step 3: Cut pieces of thread 33” long. You’ll need 3 per sheet of paper, so cut a bunch! Then, tie one end of each strand to a ceiling hook.
Step 4: Attach a ceiling hook to each “x” on the ceiling.
Step 5: Punch three holes at the top of each sheet of paper, one at each corner and the center.
Step 6: Tie the end of the thread through each hole, loop, and knot. Add a piece of tape for extra security. Attach the rest of the sheets of paper and you’re all set!
